Terms & Conditions
Last updated: June 17, 2026
By creating an account or participating in this site, you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully.
1. What This Site Is
iristhevirus.net is an independent forum for civic discussion, commentary, and the exchange of information concerning government transparency, public accountability, and the conduct of public officials and institutions acting in their official capacities. It is operated by a private individual exercising the rights to free expression and to petition the government for redress of grievances. It is not a government entity, a news agency, a law firm, or a licensed professional service.
2. Protected Expression
The discussion, criticism, analysis, and reporting published here concern matters of public concern and are intended as speech protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and any analogous protections that apply. Criticism of public officials, agencies, and institutions — including statements of opinion, good-faith interpretation, satire, and commentary on matters of public record — is a core purpose of this site.
Because the activity on this site consists of public participation and statements on issues of public interest, it falls within the protection of Oregon's anti-SLAPP statute (ORS 31.150 et seq.) and comparable laws. Any legal action brought to retaliate against, censor, or chill this protected expression may be subject to a special motion to strike and to an award of attorney fees against the party bringing it.
3. Opinion vs. Fact
Much of the content here is opinion and interpretation. Where members describe the motives, character, or conduct of public officials or institutions, those characterizations should be understood as the author's protected opinion and good-faith belief, not as verified assertions of objective fact, unless they are accompanied by cited evidence or public records. Members are encouraged to ground factual claims in documents, public records, and verifiable sources, and to clearly distinguish fact from opinion.
4. User-Generated Content
This site hosts content created by its members. Each member is solely responsible for what they post. Consistent with Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act (47 U.S.C. § 230), the operator of this site is a provider of an interactive computer service and is not the publisher or speaker of information provided by other members. Views expressed by members are their own and do not represent the views of the operator.
5. Who Can Participate
You must be 18 or older to create an account. By registering, you confirm you meet this requirement. You may participate under a pseudonym; you are not required to use your legal name.
6. Community Standards
- Engage with ideas, evidence, and the public conduct of public figures — not with private individuals' personal lives.
- Base factual allegations on documents, records, and verifiable sources wherever possible.
- Treat other members with respect, even in sharp disagreement.
- Protect your own safety and that of others — avoid posting identifying details (full legal names, home addresses, case numbers) of private individuals, including yourself.
7. Prohibited Content
The following is not protected speech and is strictly prohibited. Posting it may result in immediate removal and account termination, and may be reported where the law requires:
- True threats of violence against any person, or incitement to imminent lawless action;
- Calls for, or coordination of, violence, property destruction, or other unlawful acts;
- Knowingly false statements of fact, presented as true, about an identifiable person (defamation);
- Doxxing — publishing private identifying information (home address, phone number, government identification, etc.) of any person, whether public or private;
- Harassment, stalking, or targeted intimidation of any individual;
- Content that sexually exploits minors, or any other content unlawful under applicable law;
- Spam, solicitation, or malware.
This site exists for lawful advocacy and the peaceful exercise of free expression. It does not solicit, direct, or encourage anyone to break the law, and it does not knowingly host unlawful content.
8. Documents and Sources
Members who share documents or records are responsible for their own lawful possession of those materials. This site does not solicit or instruct anyone to obtain information unlawfully. The publication of truthful information on a matter of public concern that a member already lawfully possesses is protected expression.
9. Moderation
Moderators may remove content or suspend accounts that violate these terms. We act in good faith. This is a privately operated site, and final editorial authority rests with the operator. Removing content is an editorial decision and is not an admission about the legality of any post.
10. Corrections and Removal Requests
If you believe content on this site is factually inaccurate or unlawful, you may submit a correction or removal request to the operator. Good-faith requests are reviewed promptly. A request is not a guarantee of removal: protected commentary and opinion on matters of public concern will not be removed solely because a subject objects to it.
11. Your Content
You retain ownership of what you post. By posting, you grant this site a non-exclusive license to display and archive your content. You are responsible for the accuracy and legality of what you share, and you agree to indemnify the operator against claims arising from your own content.
12. No Legal Advice
No content on this site constitutes legal advice, and no attorney-client relationship is created by your use of it. Consult a licensed attorney for guidance specific to your situation.
13. No Warranties; Limitation of Liability
This site is provided "as is." We cannot guarantee uptime, data preservation, or that content is accurate, complete, or current. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for any harm arising from content posted by members, reliance on site content, interactions between members, or service interruptions.
14. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles, except where federal law (including 47 U.S.C. § 230 and the First Amendment) applies.
15. Changes
These terms may be updated. Continued use after changes are posted constitutes acceptance. Significant changes will be announced on the site.
